#GirlBoss was all the rage circa 2010 and is still present today. We can attribute a lot of that to Sophia Amoruso. Amourso is the founder and CEO of online fashion retailer, Nasty Gal, and is the author of her own autobiography, #GirlBoss, where she tells the tale of creating her own company in her bedroom at the age of 22. She was college dropout, living in San Francisco, California, and working a part time job at a local university. Amoruso started an eBay account in 2006 titled "Nasty Gal Vintage" where she would upsell thrifted gems she found herself. She could turn a thrifted $8 vintage Chanel jacket and sell it for $1,500. After getting her account flagged, she took the opportunity and created her own website to sell her items and thus, ShopNastyGal.com was born.

Nasty Gal has a very distinctive brand identity. 100% girl power focused while being edgy and loud. If you have ever shopped the site, you know what I mean. The iconic lip logo and color way of white, black and pink keep me going back for more. I am absolutely obsessed with the denim and jean collection from Nasty Gal. I am 6' and wear a size 10 in jeans. I ordered my first pair about a year ago and decided to make the purchase due the the edginess of the jeans themselves. They were a medium to light wash, had slits at the ankles but what really sold me was the cut out pockets. They are a staple piece in my closet that I get complimented on every time I wear them. Easy to style, very comfortable, fit me like a glove, and add a little spice to any outfit.

As quickly as Nasty Gal rose, it did in fact fall. Between 2009-2012, the sales were skyrocketing and the company employed 200 people and held over 100 million dollars in annual sales. All of that changed when Amoruso led the company into bankruptcy in 2016 and then sold her site to another online retailer, Boohoo.com, for 20 million dollars. The story of this rollercoaster of Nasty Gal was later adapted and turned into a Netflix show GirlBoss, based off of her own book.

Despite all of this, Nasty Gal is still one of my favorite places to shop online and recommend to all of my friends because there are deals nonstop on the site. Currently, a mid season sale of up to 90% off everything is happening. The clothing, all of it, from shoes to sunglasses and bralettes to cropped hoodies is all on trend. I come to Nasty Gal because I know that I can find super stylish pieces and even find trends that I haven't seen as regularly elsewhere. I would definitely recommend the jeans due to my own great experiences but honestly, everything I have ever bought is amazing. If you want to feel edgy and like you are the main character, Nasty Gal is for you. If you want to feel dainty and girly, Nasty Gal is for you. I love and can appreciate a site that lets you explore different realms of your own personal style. I always think about the story of Sophia Amoruso when I'm wearing anything from the shop and to be honest, a discount never hurt anyone.
